Salvation lost?

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:51 am by fosteringhearts

I grew up with the idea that salvation was conditional on sin…if you sin, you go to hell.  There was always that “if you died in a car wreck” fear lingering. Black and white…sin equals death.  But now I am starting to think, to search.  Are we always to fear our salvation?  Is there assurance without required holiness?

Question….elementary I am sure….

So if I sin, then I wasn’t truely born again?  But we all sin and fall short, so it can’t be conditional in that sense.  I need some explanation here…is it conditional at all?

    FH,

Maybe it is conditional, but not on whether we sin or not, but rather whether we continue in faith(fulness) or not. The Bible teaches that we must persevere in the faith and continue in Christ’s Word–but His Word includes provision for sin. So sinning doesn’t necessarily put us out of the Kingdom (think David), unless we respond to that sin with more and continued sin (think Saul). Should we respond (faithfully) in repentance (again, think David–Psalm 51) then we have remained faithful to our King.

The key to assurance, is not to allow this to make you become introspective and fearful of God’s wrath. Assurance, even in light of the covenant conditions, is attained when we focus not on ourselves, but on Christ.

    Hope this helps!
